Roswell Historical Society May Meeting

Author, Daniel Rood will discuss his newly released book, In the Shadow of the Great House: A History of the Plantation in America.

The Roswell Historical Society is excited to welcome historian Daniel Rood to discuss his recently released book. In the Shadow of the Great House: A History of the Plantation in America is "a new history of American slavery and American capitalism, told through the setting where both developed." From economic, cultural, architectural, and ecological perspectives, Daniel Rood examines the progression of the plantation from the beginnings of the transatlantic slave trade into the modern day. Daniel Rood is an associate professor of history at the University of Georgia, specializing in the history of Atlantic slavery. He is the author of “The Reinvention of Atlantic Slavery: Technology, Labor, Race, and Capitalism in the Greater Caribbean.” We hope you will join us for the special talk.
