History Seek Saturdays: A War for Paradise

Watch a film about the Creek Indians and talk with the filmmaker.

Mark McGouirk, a local amateur filmmaker, spent 7 years researching and making his documentary film, “A War for Paradise,” about the Muscogee Creeks and their struggle to keep their land in the early nineteenth century. The film reviews the history of Muscogee people, the era of initial European contact, and the devastating effects of European contact on the native people of the southeast. The film then focuses on the divisions within the Muscogee Creek Nation and the political climate that led to the Creek War of 1813-1814 and Creek removal from the Southeast. Please join us at the Barrington Hall barn for this one-hour film followed by a discussion with the filmmaker about his process for making the film.
