East Rowell Dark Park Upgrades Completed

$4.8 million invested in East Roswell Park

City of Roswell

The City of Roswell was joined by community members and their canine companions to celebrate the completion of major improvements to East Roswell Park on Tuesday, Sept. 9. The celebration marked the grand reopening of the East Roswell Dog Park, as well as improved parking, trail connectivity, ADA accessibility improvements, stormwater management, and other enhancements.

“East Roswell Park has been a gathering place for families, athletes, and neighbors for the past three decades. With these improvements, we’ve strengthened that role and prepared East Roswell Park for the next generation,” said Mayor Kurt Wilson. “Whether you’re here to walk, play, gather, or meet up for a doggie playdate, this is a space for everyone. We are proud to deliver on our promise to invest in our award-winning parks system and to take bold steps forward in our ongoing mission to make Roswell the number-one family community in the nation.”

Over the past three years, the City of Roswell has invested $4.8 million in East Roswell Park. In addition to capital improvement projects and Bond Program-funded projects completed in 2023 and 2024 (totaling approximately $2.3 million), the following 2025 projects represent an additional $2.5 million investment in the park, with the majority of funding coming from the taxpayer-approved Bond Program:

1. A New Dog Park and Parking Lot
: The existing dog park has been expanded from 0.5 acres to 0.75 acres and includes stormwater improvements, new landscaping, sod, trees, and additional dog watering stations. The parking lot alongside the dog park has also been expanded.

2. Art Center Parking and Driveway Improvements
: The driveway at Art Center East has been reconfigured to include a new turnaround and drop-off area, as well as additional parking.

3. Trail Connectivity
: The park’s existing walking trail has been extended from the softball field parking lot to the Art Center, providing a complete pedestrian loop around East Roswell Park.

4. ADA Accessibility Improvements
: Both park pavilions have received accessibility improvements to better accommodate those with mobility issues. Additional ADA parking spaces have also been added at the multi-sport turf fields.

5. Stormwater Management Upgrades
: Erosion control and stormwater management systems, including water retention and detention ponds at the new dog park, have been installed to help mitigate runoff and prevent flooding and erosion.

6. New Playground: The outdated playground in the southwest corner of the park (nearest the park entrance) is being replaced with all new equipment and landscaping. The playground will be installed within the next few weeks and is expected to be ready for use by the beginning of October.

About East Roswell Park and Recent Investments

East Roswell Park is a 40-acre park that has been serving the community since it opened in the early 1990s. Park amenities include multi-sport turf fields, softball fields, tennis courts, a sprayground, a recreation center, playgrounds, pavilions, a disc golf course, and an art center.

In 2023, Roswell’s Mayor and Council approved capital improvement funding to support much-needed updates and maintenance, including stormwater pipe replacement, upgrades to several of the tennis courts, new outdoor athletic bleachers and player benches, athletic field scoreboard replacements, indoor ADA bleachers, and Recreation Center restroom renovations. The park’s existing multi-sport turf fields were also replaced in 2024 with funding from Roswell’s Bond Program. These projects represent an investment of approximately $2.3 million in East Roswell Park in 2023-2024.

For the additional $2.5 million investment in the 2025 projects, the majority of the funding comes from the voter-approved Bond Program ($2,217,600.32), with additional funding in the amount of $234,238.58 from the Capital Projects Fund and $100,000 from the Tree Bank Fund.

Combined with 2023 and 2024 East Roswell Park improvements noted above, the total investment in this park since 2023 is approximately $4.8 million.
