Storytelling:
The traditional art of storytelling is ancient, but it is as important today as in ages past.
Storytelling is used by corporate executives, educators, youth leaders, those who work with adult and aging populations and those who wish to document and pass along their family histories. It has no boundaries and is used by all cultures, races, and religions. Not only does storytelling educate and entertain, it brings people together. Through stories we learn the many ways in which we are alike. And, we learn a greater respect of the traditions and customs that differ from our own.
Throughout the year the Roswell Folk & Heritage Bureau offers many opportunities that are of interest to tellers and those who simply enjoy hearing a good story:
- Roswell Magnolia Storytelling Festival - June
- Roswell Mysteries, Legends, and Lies - June & October
- Tellabration - November
-
Holiday Storytelling - December
- The Magnolia Tellers, a group of local and regional tellers actively involved in the promotion and preservation of the ancient art of telling.
- Oral Arts Certificate, a 32-hour path of study presented by the Roswell Folk & Heritage Bureau Lifelong Learning Center. This program is the first of its type in the nation.
Storytelling Workshop Series, offered annually at the Roswell Magnolia Storytelling Festival. These workshops may apply toward the Oral Arts Certificate, Teacher Professional Learning Units, and Librarian Certificate Renewal
- In the Footsteps of ... A Storytelling Tour of Roswell's Mill Village
Through the Roswell Folk and Heritage Bureau, tellers are given the opportunity to work on projects, participate in community events, promote the art of storytelling, encourage its preservation, and enjoy meeting and working with others involved in the ancient art.
Workshops are presented, allowing those who are interested to develop or enhance their skills, or to learn more about saving and preserving our traditional heritage.
Tellers who are actively involved in the Roswell Folk and Heritage Bureau have access to promotions through the organization's web site, are listed in the Official Guide to Roswell, and receive the History Maker newsletter.
